Felted: Circumference: approx. 30 cm, height: approx. 28 cm
Usage: approx. 150 g in col. 41 (green-black-multicolour)
Needles: 1 set of double pointed needles (dpn) in size 8,0 - 9,0mm or size needed to achieve given tension.
Pattern:
Ribbing in rnds: (amount of sts multiple of 2) alt k1, p1 cont.
Stockinette st in rnds: k all sts in all rnds.
Tension:
11 sts and 16 rnds to 10 cm meas over stockinette stich unfelted.
15 sts and 27 rnds to 10 cm meas over stockinette stitch felted.
Instructions:
Cast on 44 sts and divide evenly between the 4 needles of the dpns. Close rnd and work ribbing for 8 cm (= 12 rnds). Then cont to work the oven mitt in stockinette st.
When work meas. 15 cm total (24 rnds) work the thumb. Place 9 sts on holder and in the foll rnd cast on 7 new sts over the holder (= 42 sts). Work even.
When the mitt meas 15,5 cm (= 25 rnds) from the thumb work the tip. In the next rnd k2tog at the end of each needle (= - 4 sts). Rep these decs in every foll alt rnd until only 2 (or 3) sts are left on each needle. Cut yarn and thread through rem sts and pull together to close hole. Weave in ends.
For the thumb work 18 sts (9 from holder, cast on 1 st, pick up 7 from top edge of thumb, cast on 1 and close rnd) divide onto 4 dpns (4 or 5 sts per needle) and work stockinette in rnds until thumb is 10 cm (16 rnds) then in every foll rnd k2tog at the end of each needle. Cont. until only 6 sts total remain then cut yarn and thread through rem sts and pull together to close hole. Weave in ends.
Loop:
Cast on 17 sts and in the foll row cast off all sts. Using Filzwolle, sew the beg and end of the cord onto the cast on edge of the oven mitt facing the thumb. Weave in ends.
Felting:
Wash the oven mitt (together 2 oven mitts at most) without any other pieces or laundry in the washing machine at 40°C (warm water) using the wash cycle for cotton or coloured clothing (approx. 2 hours), spin cycle approx. 800-1000rpm, do not use a short cycle or water saving program. Add a small amount of detergent without optical brighteners or softeners. Do not add softeners to the load. To assist the felting process add 3 tennis balls to the load. After the felting process remove immediately from the machine and shape the mitt into form (it helps to put the wet mitt on your hand). Allow to dry out of direct sunlight. Tip: If you feel the mitt didn’t felt enough or is too large, you can repeat the washing cycle again. If the mitt is too small you can stretch and pull it into shape while it is still wet.
