Instructions: (changes for larger size given in brackets. If only one number is shown, this applies to both sizes)
Back:
Using the smaller circular needles and col. bright pink, cast on 153 [162] sts and work only the first row of half-fisherman’s rib in bright pink. Then change yarn to col. dark grey and cont. in half-fisherman’s rib. Work straight until row 41 (approx. 12 cm).
Next row (RS): Change to larger needles then 2 selvedge sts, 7 sts in established pattern (half-fisherman’s rib), k to last 9 sts (stockinette st) then 7 sts in established half-fisherman’s rib pattern, 2 selvedge sts.
Colour sequence after bottom rib: 12 rows in dark grey, 6 rows in stone grey, 6 rows in dark grey, then finish back using stone grey. Work straight for total of 38 [41] cm ending with a WS row.
Next row (row 115 [125]): cast off at beg of this row and every foll. row 4 sts 12 [10] times and 5 sts 0 [2] times.
Next row: place rem. 57 [62] sts on holder for neck.
Pockets: (work 2 alike)
Using larger needles and col. bright pink, cast on 28 sts (incl. 2 selvedge sts) and beg with a WS row work 12 cm straight in stockinette st then place all sts on a holder.
Front:
Work as given for Back until 12 cm from cast on.
Next row (RS): 2 selvedge sts, 7 sts in established pattern (half-fisherman’s rib), k24 [26] (stockinette st), cast off next 26 sts k-wise for pocket opening, k35 [40] (stockinette st), cast off next 26 sts k-wise for 2nd pocket opening, k24 [26] (stockinette st), 7 sts in established pattern (half-fisherman’s rib), 2 selvedge sts.
Next row: in place of the cast off sts work over the pocket sts from holder for each pocket and p2tog over the first and last 2 sts of each pocket.
Sleeves:
First close the shoulder seams. Using col. stone grey and larger needles with right sides facing pick up and knit along armhole edge (see diagram) 68 [77] sts (including 2 selvedge sts). Pick up the sts between the back selvedge st to achieve a clean edge with the front selvedge still visible. Work in stockinette st with garter slipped selvedge on each edge over next 29 [31]cm (88 [94] rows). For the shaping dec both sides (selvedge st, skp, work to last 3 sts then k2 tog, selvedge st) in every 6th row dec 2 sts 14 times. = 40 [49] sts. Then change to smaller needles and work 24 rows (8 cm) in half-fisherman’s rib st. Then change to bright pink and work last WS row and cast off row. When casting off work the double sts tog as k sts and p the other sts.
Making up:
For the high collar using the smaller needles work the sts from the front and back holders using stone grey and fisherman’s rib st in rows. Being careful to place the RS of work to the inside of the sweater (the collar will be turned back). In the first row k2tog the 1st st of front with 1st st from back. = 113 [123] sts. Work the garter selvedge sts on the edges. After 16 cm work one last row in bright pink and cast off in next row.
Close side seam placing the seam allowance to the outside so not to be seen when collar is turned back. Close sleeve seams and upper 15 cm on each side (see diagram). The bottom 20 cm stays open as side slits and design element. Weave in ends.
Hat:
The hat is worked in rounds. Using double pointed needles and col. bright pink, cast on 84 sts, placing 21 sts on each of the 4 needles. Place beg of rnd marker and join ready to work in the round.
Work 32 rnds (7,5 cm) in half fisherman’s rib in rnds ending with a 3rd row of patt. Turn work and work patt in reverse beg patt with rnd 1. To avoid creating a hole when turning, work the 1st st as a double st: sl1 p-wise, pul the yarn to the back taught to create 2 loops on the needle then work the rnd according to patt. Work straight over 25 cm (= 106 rnds) then cont. in stockinette st in rnds.
Next rnd: k2tog to end = 42 sts. Place marker at each 6th st.
In every foll 2nd rnd k2 tog at each marker (work st before marker and marked st tog). When only 14 sts remain, cut yarn and thread through all sts. Remove needles and pull yarn taught. Make a pompom Ø 9 cm and attach to the top of the hat. Weave in ends.
