Knotted selvedge st: at the beg of row, first st: sl 1 k-wise. At end of row, last st: k 1.

Ribbing: (using 4,5 - 5 mm needles, measured slightly stretched) 20 sts x 22 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm
Instructions:
Cast on 82 sts (80 sts plus 2 selvedge sts) and work in rib patt (first row WS row) until work measures 8 cm ( 18 rows).
Work next row (WS row) in structure patt and continue until work measures 24 cm (= 57 rows) then beg with dec as foll:
Row 58 (RS): Selvedge st, * k 1, k 2 tog, k1, rep from * cont., selvedge st. (= 62 sts)
Row 59: Selvedge st, * p 1, k 2, rep from * cont., selvedge st.
Row 60: Selvedge st, * p 2 tog, k 1 * cont., selvedge st. (= 42 sts)
Row 61: Selvedge st, p 1, k 1, * cont., selvedge st.
Row 62: Selvedge st, k 2 tog to end, selvedge st. (= 22 sts)
Row 63: Selvedge st, p all sts to end, selvedge st.
Row 64: k 2 tog to end (= 11 sts)
Break yarn and run through the rem sts and pull closed. Join back seam. Weave in ends. Make a 9 cm diameter pompom and sew to the top of the hat.
